Stepping into birth work often brings both excitement and uncertainty. 

Many women feel the pull to support families while quietly wondering if they are truly ready, knowledgeable enough, or capable of doing this work well. These internal questions—paired with external expectations—can feel like real barriers.  


Birth Pro Academy was created with this reality in mind. Birth work is not only skilled support; it is relational, community-centered work. It asks for presence, care, humility, and a deep respect for the families we serve. When approached thoughtfully, this work becomes not just something you do, but something that shapes you—building confidence through preparation, resilience through experience, and growth through reflection.  

Excellence in doula care is not about having all the answers. 

Your confidence as a doula is built over time through education, mentorship, and a commitment to learning. With the right support and structure, uncertainty gives way to clarity, and self-doubt is replaced by grounded confidence. 

Sadly, many doulas leave this work within just a few years—not because the work lacks meaning, but because they were never taught how to sustain themselves within it. High emotional labor, unclear boundaries, inconsistent income, and a lack of professional support contribute to burnout across the doula community.


 Birth Pro Academy is intentionally different. 

This training does not rush you into the role or glorify self-sacrifice; it prepares you to serve families with excellence while also protecting your capacity, your boundaries, and your long-term sustainability.

What Training Includes: 

Phase 1: Foundations of Doula Work

Establishing clarity, ethics, and confidence Students begin by grounding themselves in the role of the professional doula—learning scope, boundaries, communication, and what it means to serve families with integrity and responsibility.
Phase 2: Physiology, Psychology, & the Birth Process
Physiology, psychology, and the labor process This phase builds deep understanding of how birth works—physically and emotionally—so students can support families with calm, informed presence across a wide range of birth experiences and variations.

Phase 3: Applied Support & Safety

Hands-on skills and real-world readiness
Students learn hands-on comfort measures, trauma-informed care, and safety awareness that prepare you to support families with steadiness, discernment, and professionalism in complex situations.
Includes full-day, in-person skills workshop

Phase 4: Postpartum Care & Sustainable Practice

Care that lasts—professionally and personally. 
This final phase prepares students to support families beyond birth while building a doula practice that honors boundaries, sustainability, and long-term impact—so this work can be meaningful for years to come.

Each phase builds upon the last, allowing confidence and competence to develop together over time.

    Yes. Many women feel deeply called to birth work while also experiencing uncertainty or self-doubt. That tension is common in a field that carries so much responsibility and personal investment.

    Birth Pro Academy is designed to meet you right where you are. You are not expected to arrive confident or fully formed. Through structured education, mentorship, and real-world preparation, uncertainty is replaced with clarity, skill, and grounded confidence over time. Our goal is that by the end of the training you are feeling confident and already have a firm foundation for your doula business!
  • What makes Birth Pro Academy different from other training programs?
    Birth Pro Academy emphasizes professional formation rather than fast certification.

    The program is intentionally paced and cohort-based, integrating birth physiology, emotional intelligence, trauma-informed care, safety awareness, and sustainability. Equal attention is given to how doulas serve families and how they care for themselves and their business.

    In addition to comprehensive training for birth, postpartum, newborn care, and infant feeding, students also receive access to a comprehensive digital resource library and step-by-step guidance designed to help them confidently begin booking clients by the end of the program.

  • What does the in-person skills workshop include?
    Birth Pro Academy’s in-person skills workshop is intentionally designed to be more than a training day. This is a retreat-style experience based in Roanoke, Virginia is created to leave students feeling refreshed, grounded, and confident as they prepare to step into professional doula work.

    The full-day workshop is held at a private, cozy location and includes a continental breakfast and prepared lunch. Every detail is thoughtfully considered to honor your time, your commitment, and the meaningful work you are preparing to do.

    Throughout the day, students will practice skills, integrate learning, ask questions, and build genuine connection within their cohort—away from distraction, pressure, or performance.

    Morning sessions focus on hands-on advanced comfort measures for labor, along with practical skills for supporting clients during the postpartum period. In the afternoon, the focus shifts toward in-depth business coaching, ensuring your practice is organized, established, and ready to support you—so you can focus on the work you love: caring for families.

    As part of the experience, students will also receive professional headshot photos, taken on-site by a photographer. This allows you to leave the workshop not only prepared in skill and knowledge, but also ready to present yourself professionally as you begin serving clients.
  • What does certification require, and how does BPA approach readiness for client work?
    Birth Pro Academy is a structured, 10-week professional training designed to support both learning and integration. The program blends independent study with live, cohort-based sessions so students can absorb material thoughtfully while receiving guidance and mentorship along the way.

    Each week includes a combination of self-paced coursework and live teaching or discussion sessions. Students are given weekly assignments that are intentionally designed to be manageable and meaningful—helping you develop your skills and begin building your own doula practice step by step, without overwhelm.

    Throughout the program, students are guided closely. You are not expected to figure things out on your own. Instruction, feedback, and support are woven into the experience so that confidence grows alongside competence.

    Certification requirements include:
    • Completion of all online modules and required coursework
    • Participation in live cohort sessions (or review of replays when needed)
    • Completion of weekly practice-building assignments
    • Attendance at the full-day, in-person skills workshop
    • Active engagement with reflection, discussion, and skill integration

    Because we value your time, your commitment, and the professionalism of this work, birth attendance is not required for certification. We do not expect doulas to work for free in order to prove readiness.

    Instead, readiness is built through education, mentorship, reflection, and intentional preparation. By the end of the program, students are equipped with the knowledge, tools, and confidence needed to begin taking on clients and developing a doula practice that reflects their values and strengths.
